Installing carpet properly, without seams or wrinkles, will insure a professional looking job.
To learn how to install carpet, you will need: begin by removing the baseboards and taking out any old carpeting.
Remove the old, tackless strips and make sure the floor is clean and dry.
Replace the old strips with new ones.
Lay the carpet padding down in strips, making sure that it does not overlap.
Place each strip exactly next to the other.
Staple it along the inside edge of your tackless strip, trimming any excess.
Use duct tape to seal the seams where the padding is fitted next to one another.
Knowing how to install carpet properly involves making sure the padding is laying flat.
Your carpet pieces should overlap the edge of the floor by about six inches.
This insures that you never come up short when installing carpet.
Mark the back of the carpet with your measurement and cut through the back of it with your utility knife.
Never cut through the front of the carpet.
When using more than one piece of carpet, make sure the pile runs the same way on every piece.
To join two pieces together, you will need to use a seaming iron.
The seaming tape goes on the floor right under the seam with the adhesive side up.
Using the seaming iron under the carpet, activate the adhesive.
Then join the carpet seams and press the adhesive with the rolling pin.
Learning how to install carpet with invisible seams will make your job appear more professional.
A knee kicker is used to stretch the carpet over the edge of the tackless strip until it is secured.
The carpet stretcher is used to secure the carpet to the other side of the room over the other tackless strips.
While you work your way around the room with the carpet stretcher, you will need to trim off excess carpet as you go with the utility knife.
To finish off, cut holes for floor vents, tuck the carpet between the tackless strips and the wall using a stair tool or putty knife and reinstall the baseboards.
