This is the way i remember the deposit break down but it has been a few years since i rented so maybe someone will chime in with more current info.
The nonrefundable pet dep: cannot be applied toward damages.
Refundable pet dep: should and can be used against damage beyond usual wear and tear.
Standard refundable dep: should and can be used against damage, general or otherwise.
Some complexes wait a few days after move out to do their inspections.
But no one likes surprises or a misunderstanding on how the deposits will be applied.
