ripping up old carpet::We help the homes with various projects around their campus that they need to have done, but do not have the time or resources to properly address.
We have been attending the boys and girls homes for our dlssp since the fall of 2006.
The projects we have worked on have greatly varied over the years.
At the store, donations that the children cannot use are sold and the money raised goes towards supporting the programs run by the homes.
They also cleaned out and moved furniture in several cottages with major kitchen cleanings.
There was also a birthday celebration for the residents followed by a step show by the residents and sports time with everyone.
The spring dlssp also featured a competitive donation drive that was very successful!
Throughout the year, other activities are also done to help the homes, outside of dlssp.
For example, at the district convention the district board members and club presidents are auctioned off to get pied in the face; all money raised is donated to the homes.
For the 20082009 school year, dlssp tshirts were created, with all proceeds going to the boys and girls homes.
Also new in the 20082009 school year, there was a donation competition drive for the homes.
Clubs were encouraged to collect donations, raise money, and spread advocacy about the homes on their own as well.
